Ms. Ofelia Ryan worked at the same Elementary School I work now as an attendance counselor. I saw her dealing with parents who were very angry because she made them accountable for their children's absences.
Ms. Ryan heard nothing but complaints, and in several cases she had to deal with the disrespect that ignorant people displayed when asked to bring their children to school. The school only paid for one day of services; nevertheless, Ms. Ryan volunteered on Saturdays to bring a new program to school. She always searched for enrichment activities during her free time and wrote mini-grants to get free transportation for field trips, raffle prizes, award certificates and other gifts for kids.
Ms. Ryan always devoted her time to provide support for the families in the community.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
