Heather Prendergast was born in Indianapolis, Illinois and moved all over the country as a child; she even lived in Scotland for a while. She attended UVA and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Education and had a teaching job right out of college in Chesapeake, Virginia. She taught 2nd grade for 13 years and during these years she got married at the UVA chapel and had 4 children, each 2 years after the other. After her fourth child was born, she decided that she wanted to become a stay-at-home mom since her husband was a successful radio DJ with a morning show on a country station. She enjoyed the stay-at-home mom lifestyle for a little less than a year, when her husband, Jay, was faced with an unfair situation at work and decided to make the moral choice to leave the station. Unfortunately, when he began his job, he signed a non-compete clause that stated that he couldn’t get another radio job in the area for at least 2 years.
Heather decided to give up the stay-at-home life she had intended to maintain to go back to work, but not back into the teaching field. “I had a dream that I was supposed to be a pharmaceutical representative”, says Heather. So that’s exactly what she did. She went to an interview for a position as a rep and was offered the job on the spot, even with no prior experience in the field. It seemed like it was meant to be. She quickly made her way up the ranks and once she became in the top 10 representatives in her country, she stayed there. After a year, she became a hospital representative and now, only 5 years later, she’s the district manager of a very large area of Virginia.
Heather demonstrates true family values. She left her comfortable lifestyle to venture into a career that she had limited knowledge of, to help her family through a rough time. Her commitment to her family and the success she has had in a new career is an inspiration to all.
