My hero is – despite its cliché - my dad, Gilbert. I won’t pretend that he and I have an amazing father-daughter bond, because I wouldn’t say we do, and I won’t pretend that I’ve never disagreed with him, because I have. Although I may not want to follow his footsteps, I won’t deny that the man has charisma and an excellent work ethic. He balances a farm, an apartment building, an oilfield business, community duties, and us – the family that doesn’t give him the appreciation he deserves. He has a, “Work as hard as you can and you’ll earn what you get” mentality, and everything my family has ever enjoyed, he worked for. He treats people well, donating time and money when he can, and has helped out ‘thy neighbor’ more times than just once, and with more generosity than some might see as sane. My father lives his life with generosity, drive, humility, and love – for what he does, and for his family. Everyone always says, “Oh, I love your dad!” I have a feeling they don’t say that just because he strongly resembles Bob Saget; there’s true meaning behind my saying, “Yeah... my dad’s a good guy.”

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
