When I hear the term "Hero," I immediately think of one man, and that is my father. Recently, my father was diagnosed with Stage 1 Skin Caner, and although the illness is non-life-threatening, I started to think about how scary it would be to lose someone who meant so much to me and my community. My father is a mailman, and not just the typical guy who goes mailbox to mailbox, door to door, but he really knows the people on his route and is highly respected by them. He will do anything for someone in need. His elderly customers especially admire him and also sometimes rely on him. He will do little things like go grocery shopping for an elderly woman who can't easily leave her home, change the light bulb for someone who just can't reach, put away garbage cans when it's not easy for someone to make the walk. Although these examples seem meaningless to many, they mean the world to his customers. He will drive people to doctor appointments if they are not mobile, he will check up on the customers that are alone and older. He truly cares for these people and I really admire that about him. A hero is someone that I believe you strive to be similar to and share the characteristics of that person. My father has taught me that a little bit goes a very long way. A smile can change someone's day, a compliment can change someone's week, doing things to help others and increase their happiness is something that all should strive to do. Change the world one smile at a time.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
