My hero was born on July 27, 2000. My son, Michael, was born with Hunter Syndrome and scoliosis. He lived to be 7 years old. There are so many things he taught me, but most of all he showed me humility. He underwent 7 surgeries by the time he was 2 years old. He rarely complained, even when he was hospitalized for two weeks at a time. He laughed almost every night when he went to bed and almost every morning when he woke up. He never weighed more than 32 pounds and he reached 32 inches tall. After the last hospital stay he never walked again, but, he loved riding in a wagon in our neighborhood or sitting in his chair outside. Ten months later he died quietly while watching Barney the Dinosaur and eating Honeycombs (his favorite). Michael showed me that you take life as it is dealt and enjoy every moment it gives you. He is the love of my life and I cannot wait to see him again. There is so much more I can say about Michael...just know he touched many lives in his short time here and inspired so many to be better.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
