My hero is a man who has spent his life in the defense of others. He is a soldier, a father, a son, a brother, an uncle, a friend, but most importantly he is my husband. He has become an amazingly wonderful part of a life less lived. When we met, I hardly thought this wonderful man would ever want to be part of my life....a single mother of two young girls, on her own, struggling to meet each challenge the day brought and yes....un-trusting. His very special way with everyone in his life was almost contagious, his laughter, his smile, his encouragement. He stepped into the role of a father without a second thought, it was as if he was sent from my dreams. He grew to be the man in my young daughters' lives that was missing and to me he became my lifeline. In a life where we were told that more children would not be an option, we were blessed with a son who is very much like this wonderful man. We have spent many days apart due to the nature of his job, but even in the lonesome times of my life when we have been apart, I have never been alone.
It has been 15 years since we first smiled at one another and there has not been a day that I have not thanked God for this wonderful man, the most unselfish person I've ever known. He not only taught me how to live, he taught me how to truly love.... His job quantifies him as the hero in life to many, but it's his kind and loving soul that qualifies him as a hero in mine.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
