My dad, Howard Spurlock of WV, is my hero. Born 1927 during the depression and the second of 13 siblings all raised by a coal miner and his wife in a two room rented home that had dirt floors and no running water for a majority of their lives. My dad was in the Army for 20 years and served in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Then he worked for Kmart Corporation for another 19 years. He's my hero because he never let his rough childhood of not being rich or fancy keep him from surviving or making it in this world. He raised me and my little brother , to pray and to work hard and although he was nearly 50 when we were born he has always given and talked to us as much as possible.
I love you daddy and so glad that God has seen you healthy for these 83 years. I love you.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
