My father was an Air Force pilot. While on assignment out of the country, his office was near the runway. One day as he was looking at paperwork he watched a US plane overshoot the runway and crash, the end of the runway had a large drop off. He knew he needed to get there quickly to help. He jumped down the large drop and ran to help the injured passengers get out, as the plane was already on fire. After he was able to drag out unconscious survivors and get all he could to safety, he realized he had broken his ankle in the jump. Not only did my dad spend much of his life in service for our country but he did not once think of himself while doing it. Amazingly, I could tell you more stories just like this where he put his life in danger for others or for his job and that is what makes him a hero.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
