It sounds like a cliche when you hear "my mom or my dad", but I can honestly say my mom is my hero! When she was only 18 she was in the hospital to give birth to me while my grandmother (her mother) was in another hospital 15 minutes away dying with Breast Cancer. My memaw was on the phone with her while she was giving birth to me. Two months later, she died at only 46. Twelve years later, my grandfather came to live with us so my mom could take care of him, for he was ill, she did this while she was going through a horrible divorce. Left alone with 3 daughters and no child support, my mom worked 3 jobs and took care of her ill father. She became sick herself, depression. She did everything in her power to make sure we were fed and properly taken care of. Today she is 40 years old and does not have 1 parent alive, but she never let anything take control over her. Anyone who mentions her always has amazing things to say about her. I'm now 21, and when I become a mom I can only pray I'm half the woman she is.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
