My hero is my late husband, Lou. When we first met 8 years ago, he brought a light into my life and I was never the same again. He had my heart from the first day we met and we were married April 23, 2005. He had such a joy for living each and every day to its absolute fullest and strove to reach out to anyone in need. Even when he was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer in 2004, he did not slow down. In fact, he strove harder to make a difference and was grateful for everyday he lived...sober. You see, he found sobriety and a relationship with his higher power on August 26, 2001. He battled his disease with a smile in his heart and on his face for four years (a lot longer than the doctor's expected). Even at the end, his thoughts were for me as he quietly reached out to friends to look out for me. He knew before I did that his time on this earth was drawing to a close. Lou went home to his Father on July 1, 2008. Not a day goes by that I don't feel him, see his face and hear all the little words of wisdom and encouragement he shared wherever he went. I am forever blessed.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
