A carnival had come to the small town in which we lived and one evening I went with my two children. My son who was around 10 years old at the time wanted to spend his last few dollars on a game which involved throwing a ball through a basketball hoop which was not much bigger than the ball. I tried to convince him that the game was too hard to win and that he should maybe spend his money on a ride or another game that might be easier. He kept insisting he could win the basketball game. Finally, after much complaining, I gave in and let him try, thinking that it would all soon be over and he would see how impossible it was to sink that ball.
He handed the man working his money, took the ball and proceeded to sink the ball through the basket. He chose his prize and looked up at me and said "You didn't think I could do it but I knew I could." My heart sank...I learned a great lesson in parenting that day, thanks to my son. Never say can't always say can!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
