The generosity in me was inspired following a retreat celebrating the 2010 Lunar New Year (Chinese/Vietnamese New Year). For the first time, I started filling decorative red envelopes with "lucky money" to send to family, friends, co-workers, former lab mates, and the people around me and their (very) sick loved ones - a custom that has primarily been reserved for the elderly treating children. The 'bills' really started adding up and I started having second thoughts: maybe I should skip this person? I haven't seen that person in a long time...I could use this for school or rent..This person won't notice...
But then I thought to myself, "It's just costing me a dollar or two to put a smile on someone's face for the New Year." After I realized what a good deal it really was (who wouldn't pay a dollar or two for a smile?!), it was much easier to send off the rest of the envelopes and have no regrets.
It's now more important than ever to keep things in perspective and Pass It On.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
