When I was a sophomore in high school, I will admit that against all better judgment, I was a total player. I had a new girlfriend every two weeks. About half way through the year, though, I met a girl who I could honestly say that I wanted to stay with for a while. Near the end of the year, we were possibly the happiest kids in our graduating class. Well, I accidentally left my yearbook in my second hour classroom, which was the only class that we shared. As I turned down the hallway, I saw her kissing one of my friends. She was cheating on me! I could hardly believe my eyes, but I stared for a good 15 seconds before I just grabbed my yearbook and left. Later that day, needless to say, I broke it off with her via phone-call.
But, for some reason, I just couldn't get over her. For the entire summer, and most of the following year, I didn't speak to her but to tell her that I hated her for what she had done, or to answer her asking me for a second chance with a definite "NO." Yet, I still just didn't feel right with myself anymore.
About two weeks ago, I had a dream about her. I didn't really want to, but I dreamed that her and I were happily living together and looking out from each other. I woke up just after dreaming that my father had told me that as people, we can get past anything and be better off for it.
So, that day I wrote a letter to her, saying that I had forgiven her for cheating on me, and that I was willing to give it a second chance if she was still game. I still haven't sent that letter, but I do feel right with myself again. I intend to send it out as soon as I can, and follow through with it, and ever since I made that commitment, nothing has been able to get me down. I was able to forgive her for what she did to me, and I was able to understand that everybody makes mistakes. Regardless of what happens, I realize that forgiveness is an important thing and can make one's life much better.
