The economy has affected us all, foreclosures, unemployment, plummeting property values are only a few problems we are facing but ones we have found a way to address through volunteering. My friend and I are out of work but continue to use our skills to work hard for our community. Many houses in our neighborhood have been foreclosed on and abandoned. Some are flooded and in disrepair. We have been spending our time recently finding who owns these homes and contacting them to make repairs. When that fails we contact the county. If all else fails we organize a group and together we clean the houses up ourselves. Some homes are in great shape. We have been marketing our neighborhood to investors and families. We are using our down time to better our community. We are doing our best to keep our neighborhood strong, safe, clean, beautiful, and stabilize property values. We are making a difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors in a small way with hope for a better future for all of us.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
