Lights of Lights
The lights were dim with a candle flaming blue, red, yellow waving slowly and the view of moon as if it’s listening to the conversation that is taking place through the window. Rias was gazing closely at the flame meditatively and probed “Did you realize that this beautiful flame will be gone and darkness will take its place soon? It’s a sad moment that all beauty will cease one day. Nothing is eternal, only momentary. It will be all black one day.”
Maya was listening quietly resting her cheek on his bare chest. She hugged him tightly with a little feel of fear that one has to leave and enter an unknown darkness someday. Maya whispered “You are my flame in my life, without you I’ll be in darkness dear.”Drops of tears fell on Rias’s chest as she uttered those words. Rias sighed and was gazing yet again at the candle. It is as if with full of tears fearing the end is coming soon. It feels like the only thing matters now is the solitude that will overwhelm either the flame or the wax. While the thought is playing in Rias’s mind, the flame was slowing into darkness. As the flame went off, total darkness and quietness happened. Life is full of pain, burden, sacrifice, loss and all emotions that lead to an end. The only strength to carry this baggage lifelong is love, a love with no conditions. It is like the wax burned with the flame. The wax is patient, adamant and holding strong not to lose the flames beauty despite the burn.
“I will hold on you strong Maya, till the end. I'm just like the wax and you are the flame in my life. I am patient to admire your beauty till my last breath.”As they turned and cuddled each other in the darkness, another light begin to fill the space of their room coming through the window. Both Rias and Maya realized it was the rays of the moon, both chuckled. Rias whispered “But there is always a light at the end of a dark tunnel, yet in darkness I will search for my light.””It is you my love”...as he kissed Maya’s wet cheeks. “When we wake up in the morning, it will be brighter. I realized beauty is eternal if it’s defined as love.”
While both of them enjoying the moment of romance, a voice heard at the room door.
“Grandpa, I’m scared to sleep and it’s very dark. Can I sleep with both of you?” He ran and lay inbetween his grandparents. Now both of them were cuddling the 5 year old boy. Grandma whispered some words to the boy lovingly. “Never fear the darkness, have faith that there is always a tiny light waiting to enter the darkness. That light will make you smile....”
