For as long as I can remember, kids have come to me with their problems. They'll usually just sit and tell me about something that happened to them that upset them, without really seeking advice. I was used to that.
Then Mikayla came along. She told me one of the saddest stories I'd ever heard, except this had really happened to her. To make a long story short, her mom was a teen mom when she was born and couldn't provide for her, she was taken away, she lives with her great-grandparents, and she hardly ever hears from her mom. As if that wasn't bad enough, she wanted my advice on how to overcome this. She wanted to make friends so badly. I wasn't sure how to handle it, but I gave it my all. And, lo and behold, a year later we're going into the 8th grade and she's got more friends than I do!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
