Its a normal day for me wake up go to school repeat, but today is a different day. I notice there is a non-familiar person sitting in the back of the classroom; that’s when the teacher points her out “ Who are you?” “Oh im Lily the new student”. So the teacher goes on with her instructions and asks us to go into groups of 2. Everyone in that class has their partner besides her. At that moment I remember when I was in her exact shoes well at least felt what she was feelings.
Standing there looking dumb knowing what not to do or where to go and wait wait wait lets start from the beginning, how I got there. I’m a 6th grader living in Salt Lake City, and summer is about to end but I am actually glad it is because I get to start a new chapter in my life, at a new school a Jr.High with all my friends. Well at least that's what I thought until my mom comes out with the surprising news, “We’re moving! Isn’t it great! I bought a new and better place it’s up in West Valley City and you’ll be going to Valley Jr. High” as I heard that a million questions came through my mind but only one came out , “I don’t know anyone how am I supposed to go somewhere where everyone in a building is a complete stranger, how am I supposed to enjoy a new thing in my life when I expect the worst.’’ well maybe more than one. It seemed like if she did not care at all because all she said was “ You will get over it , and make friends eventually” but for me that seemed like the most impossible thing to do.
It’s the first day of school something I was looking forward to turned into something I never wanted to start, especially when I had to go on the 3rd day because of me being late to registration. As I was walking to all my classes trying to find each one of my classes which felt like trying to find a needle in a pile of hay. The day went by surprisingly fast it was time for 4th period gym the worst thing that could happen because I had gym for 2nd period that same day. I was the most unathletic person you could meet at the time, are starter was warm up by shooting hoops. I went to the farthest hoop away from the crowd typical me trying to isolate myself from others but there I saw a girl with a really familiar face so I tried to remember a name but before I could say anything she says “ You are so pretty!’’ my self-esteem went from 0 to 100 real quick regarding that was the nicest thing that had happened to me all day. Thats where I remembered her name “ Is your name Gaby?” “Yes um do I know you” “I think you are a friend of a friend of a friend’’ that’s basically how our conversation went not so interesting, but for me it was regarding I felt like I didn’t have a place in that class when everyone else did in that crowded small gym filled with students.
It’s day two and my mom doesn't want to take me so I have to take my big yellow limo to school. If you didn’t get the hint its the school bus which I really don’t understand why it decides to come so early. I arrive to school and go through all my classes oddly this day went by twice as slow than the last. When I lately show up to my 4th period which was CTE and at the time I had no idea what that class was about. There she was the tall, tan, dark hair girl I knew as Gaby from gym class. With her in the room I felt some sort of comfort and knew this class was going to go by easier than the others. Everyday went by better because at the end of the day I had a class with a girl that I could call friend I was included and had build a friendship with this girl.
Behind a simple “Hello” there is billions of possibilities. Mine resulted in creating a friend for life, yours can too. “IRANY!” the teacher yelled out for the 5th time I guess I was deep in my thoughts. The teacher asks Lily who her partner is before she can say a word I say “Me hi im Irany”. I do that because I know how including others can turn their feelings around.
