I am arriving to my last class of the day. As I sit down in my seat the teacher approaches me she says “We have a new student and I would like you to help her get use to the class and the students.” I say “Sure.” The girl walks over and sits next to me. She looks shy but I smile at her and I see the her face change from a shy smile into a big smile.
I remember the day that I was changed into a new class and none of my friends or their friends were in there; I felt unwanted. The first day that I was in my class, my table didn't talk to me and I didn't either. The next day in that class the teacher then sat me next to this girl who had her pierced ears, lips, and nose. She said “You're new to class aren't you? Well my name is Ashley.” I looked at her for a second and then said “Hi.” She knew that I was shy and that I didn't feel good being in this class. She introduced me to the rest of the table, who didn't look nice but then again I thought Ashley was goth when I first saw her up close, but that day she showed me that she was very nice person.
That whole week the other girls at my table would look at me like a hungry animal who was to kill its prey and they whisper to one another about my looks and how I wasn't wanted in this class because the teacher would compliment me on quizzes. One day I felt crappy and Ashley asks ‘’what’s wrong?’’ I didn't answer but she found out that I use to go through bullying, depression, and suicide. She talked to me about that day I told her ‘’what was up?’’ She said “ I thought you were a rich girl with good grades and no problems but I was wrong.” The rest of the table heard about the real me and they apologized for what they had said. After this, Ashley introduced me to new people who had gone through the same things that I had gone through as if I was no longer the alone in the world and that same day I met Perla ,my best friend now, who taught me not to judge others on their appearance. A month later I could see that Ashley had literally changed my life from everyday judgement,to once in a while nasty glances.
I come back into my last class of the day and I can see that the shy look that she once had was returning. I compliment her about outfit and she says “ Oh thanks, I just put this together this morning without even thinking.” Then the teacher told us to get ready to take notes on the presentation she made for us.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
