Apreciation
“Grab the drywall” my dad said, as I grab it and take it to him. I hold the drywall while he measures it, and cuts the drywall so quickly and accurately. Then I hold the drywall up against the ceiling while, he nails the drywall to the ceiling. While holding it my hands got tired and i was already sweating just by putting one piece of drywall on. Then I remembered how he told me his story about his life.
It all starts of with him in telling me about how he worked in a car shop in mexico for about ten years. Then he had a baby with my mom and the baby is now my 21 year old brother paul. But he felt like moving to the United States would give my paul a better life. So he planned on crossing the border with my aunt to california since his brother lived there. In a few months he crossed the border with my aunt.
He described crossing the border like scoring an “Olimpico”. an Olimpico is scoring a goal from a corner kick. I guess what he meant by that is It's hard and you have to be precise. He said once he heard the word “La migra” his heart would drop to his stomach. The word “La migra” means Immigration. But as he was getting away he saw My aunt all the way in the back, And he didn’t want to leave her behind. So he went back for her and they were both caught by Immigration.
Once they were caught they were sent back to mexico to soon enough cross again. The second time was a success, he met up with my uncle and hey drove from Arizona to Los Angeles California. When he fixed his papers and went back to mexico to fix my moms and brother's papers. Once everything was fixed he moved to utah with my family and rented an apartment in Taylorsville Utah. Then Me and my sister were born. I lived in Taylorsville for about three years then moved to a duplex in West Valley City Utah. Then my dad found a job putting drywall for about 15 hours a day for about 5-6 years.
Suddenly I hear “Lalo, hold the drywall,” and I snap out of my flashback. After working with him we put all of the stuff in the trunk, then on the car ride back to the house it hit me. Seeing him work and him sweating and thinking how can he last 15 hours doing this everyday, and how his life was back in the day and what he went through, made me realize that everything he does is for us. This makes me appreciate how hard he works and not to be whining about the new video games my friends have. Ever since then my dad has been the person I have appreciated more than anyone else. I am thankful for for all that he has done for us because without my dad and my family, I don't know where I would be.
