It was 1978, I was of 10 years old and used to stay in Calcutta,
I could not forget that year as this city faced a disaster that
year, flood in Ganges river hampered the normal city life,
our school remained closed, one of school friends named Sandhya used to stay in Subhas Nagar , it was situated in
lower area across the railway line, the area was partially
submerged, people of that area started to go outside through
thick and hard bamboo made boat, at that time my friend's
grandfather became ill, the outer city connection was cut off
with this area, my friend's father crossed the watery path
with the help of bamboo based boat in order to call a doctor,
it was not possible for the aged grandfather to go out to
attend any hospital because a continuous rain ,was on but no
doctor dared to visit the area at that moment, at last my friend's father built a tent typed shade upon the bamboo
type boat with the help of lots of plastic outward with inward
long clothes tied by hard coconut ropes binding with bamboos
and took his father to the hospital across the watery path,
that time the ground floor of their house was submerged and
had to arrange the boat with the remaining things on first or second floor! The story inspired me a lot to learn that if we
have any strong determination, we can overcome any obstacle
to reach our goals.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
