I am in high school and I am 14 years old. My story is mostly untold, until now. It is currently November 2015. In September 2015, my great grandma died. She was sick and old. We were very close. She was in the hospice for a few weeks, and I would visit her. I remember once I was visiting her, she was sleeping, peacefully, still breathing, but very slowly. I went up to her, knelt down and whispered in her ear, "Grandma, it's me, Jaylen. I don't know if you can hear me, but, I want you to know that it's okay to go. I know you are holding on, you don't want to leave, and none of us want you to leave either. I don't want you to suffer. I, we, all love you. We are okay with you leaving, even though it will hurt. But you will always be with us, everywhere we go. It's okay to leave, and we all love you very much." I started crying and walked away. A few weeks later, she passed away at the age of 87. I then knew she heard me. I heard the news at my house and I ran upstairs to my room and cried. I looked out my window and looked up at the clouds and said, "Thank you, I love you." I said goodbye to her for the last time at her funeral, which was really hard to do, I loved her. I then realized that people come and go, they change your lives forever. They shape you and your future, they make you better at being you. I thank my great grandma for everything she did for me, and it made me love her more. I always look back on this, and I use it to fix my mistakes, and use it to learn in new situations. She was the part in my life that made me want to do more. I know that she wants me to be successful and do things when I can, look back on moments, and it made me the person I am today. She will never be forgotten. If any of you reading this has someone like my grandma, thank that person for all he/she has done. When they are gone, you realize what they have done for you, and you should be grateful for that.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
