I grew up with a sister like no other. My sister is the oldest of our 12 siblings from the same mom. Despite the fact that I was 3 years younger than her, my sister has always preserved me like I am at her age. She surely is the number outgoing person and the definition of sisterhood on planet earth. She knows so many people and gets along with them like she knew them for centuries. Now that I am far away from her, I miss her like crazy.
One of those things that she had me do it with her that I adore and cry, whenever I remember how breathtaking it was at the time, was skipping school without our parents knowing it for one whole month.
When she was 13 years old and I was 10, my sister was an 8th grader and I was in my 5th grade. My family would always allow her take the school tuition at the end of each month since the school was not free and since she was the oldest of the 3 of us who would go to that school, her, my brother who is between the 2 of us and me. One month she told me,” sis, how about we don’t pay the school tuition this month and we take it with us and go travel for days. I mean we can come home during the night, and then do the same thing for days if you want to. Two other friends are coming and joining with us. We will also have meals and snacks so we won’t starve to death because the money is enough”. She wanted to create memories in her last month of primary school and I am glad I understood that at the time. I gladly told her I will join and did. It was the second to the last month of her primary school life.
The four of us, her 2 classmates /friends and I, walked and walked and came back with the same road when it is about 1pm so we could make home on time. Our brother, however, never told mom or dad about it and kept it secret. He had wild friends so he knew if he covers our story this time, we will when it’s his turn.
All in all, we haven’t gotten to school for that month and the school never called home because it didn’t even matter if the kids were there or not in our schools back in my country. We have made friends with the people on the streets. We have fed and gave hand to those on the roads.
From that experience, I have learned so much from it. I have become so close to my sister. Now that she grew up and she is in college and I am 17 years old in my last year of high school, I am missing her like crazy. She is back in my country and I am attending a high school in America as an exchange student.
My sister has taught me about how to have fun in the midst of life’s major hindrances. She has taught me about the significance of friendship, sisterhood and truthfulness. Without her, I have never gotten into the place I am today. It was she who found the school I attended in the first years of my high school that I later got into this scholarship year that I am in now. It was she who found the school that I met with my biggest and the most awesome people in my life. It was she who found the school, which I learned my best strengths and passions. I am endlessly indebted to have her and will one day give back to her love and caring when she is least expecting my love and presence.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
