“Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.”

Calvin Coolidge 30th US President

My mother kept a framed copy of "Press On" on the wall. I have always found it deeply moving.

Perseverance

My husband and I owned a print shop for 30 years from the mid seventies until 2006.In the early days of our business we worked almost 24-7 ourselves so we could get the business off the ground. One day a customer came in to have a copy made of "Press On" . I made a copy for us and taped it to the wall. It was so inspiring that it kept me from dispair. I am not a genius, or overly talented, and I didn't have a college education. But I am determined and I never give up. And a positive attitude will deliver positive results. I am glad I found my mantra again, to be printed out and followed all of these later.

How I wish...

When I graduated from college, I went to work for a car dealership. At our weekly meetings, this quote was on a plaque over the dealer's shoulder. I looked at it continuously, but never really thought about it. I eventually became a car dealer and thirty five years later, in the toughest economy ever, it has reminded me constantly to never give up, stay positive, and good things will happen to guide you through the darkest hours.
