Fourteen years ago my mom brought my brother and me to the United States from our war torn country of Bosnia. She spoke no English, had no money and was a single mom. She also has a hearing disability which she knew would make it difficult for her to learn the language. However, she wanted to provide my brother and me with the best education and the best life we could ever have. When we first came to America, she worked incredibly hard at learning English and at her job. She instilled in my brother and me the value of education and provided us with every possible opportunity she could. In the face of war, a disability and a language barrier she persevered. I am in my second year of law school now and I know that without my mom's sacrifice none of this would ever be possible. She is a true hero.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
