I am a 50-year old tax and corporate lawyer at a major law firm and chair its tax practice. The foundation for my better life began with Ms. W. Ms. W was my fifth grade teacher. I came from a family with a number of alcoholics and abuse. During a very delicate and important time in my life, Ms. W took me under her wing, to museums, plays, and events that I would not have had the opportunity to experience. She cared about me and for me. She gave me self-confidence and helped me develop self-esteem. She taught me much more than math and science, and she did a wonderful job of teaching me those basic school lessons. She taught me about caring and compassion for others. She has stayed in touch with me and followed my life for the past 40 years. She is my hero and has been for many decades.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
