My husband, whom I call “Boston” after the city he grew up in, is my hero. We’ve been married for four years but we’ve been only been together about one and a half of those years. We are a military family. Over the course of our short marriage we’ve had one child, purchased cars, a house, and moved across the country, twice. I am grateful everyday for our life and how full it is. I know that it is only possible for us to have what we have because he does what he does.
Although the distance at times can be trying and lately it has felt unending, I live with the hope that someday I will be able to wake up next to my husband. I pray that he will get to watch his son grow. I persevere, day after day, because of him. He inspires me. He grew up in the Boston projects and is one of five children. His father couldn’t hold a job very long and his mother never worked. He wanted a better life for his family, so he focused on becoming more than his circumstances. Through the adversity of life events, he has never faltered. He is very much the man he is because of a grandfather who passed good values and character on to him. That man taught him many of the values he adheres to today. Someday my husband will pass it on to our son and the legacy will continue.
I have learned so much from my husband. I have become a better person because of him. Our life up till now has taught me many things: sacrifice, gratitude, patience and commitment. But my hero has taught me that love encompasses all of those things.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
