My hero is a little girl named Emily who was tragically killed on PCH in Malibu by a driver trying to take his own life. Emily was 13 years old and her actions and attitude have changed a community. Emily was all about love, all about being who you were and not hiding it. She had friends of all ages and she was the unofficial "ambassador" of her middle/high school. Any time a new child came to the school she took them under her wing until they were comfortable and ready to integrate into the school and find new friends. She never wanted anyone to feel the pain of loneliness. She helped her friends with problems and reached out to anyone that was sad. In her short 13 years, she has shown me, a man of 54 years old, how to behave and that random acts of kindness is what life is about. To take care of yourself while at the same time taking care of the people around you.
She changed our lives, but in her death we have learned how special she was and how her attitude of unconditional love is what we should all try to emulate. Being nice is what life is all about. Unfortunately, it took her death for us to realize this...She is my hero and will be for as long as I take a breath and in her memory I will do acts of kindness everyday without looking for anything in return, just for that person to pass it on. She was my daughter!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
