When my daughter was in high school we went to an open house where we and all the other parents sat in our children's classroom listening to the teacher. She told us a story of a kid who she'd noticed was ostracized for being "slow". He had no friends and didn't do well in school. She hatched an unusual plan. In class she mentioned that "Bobby" might not do well in the class. Kids laughed a nervous laugh. Then she challenged the class by stating that if "Bobby" got at least a "B" in her algebra class, then, on the last day of class, would sing the theme song of Disney's Pocahontas. Suddenly, Bobby became the most popular kid in the class. Everyone wanted to spend time with Bobby to explain things to him, invite him over to their houses to study, etc. Many found out there was more to Bobby than they thought and many friendships were formed that lasted the rest of high school. Then Carolyn, the teacher, said to us parents, "Then I sang this" and she sang the song. Amazed, I wanted to ask her if she sang it for the movie---she was that good.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
