My father has been my Hero for all my life! He has most, if not all, of the good values this organization represents! As a boy I couldn't ask for a better father. He tried his best to teach me all the most important values, like Loving, Helping Others, Kindness, Honestly, Loyalty, Trust, Inspiration, Getting enjoyment out of the good things in life and so much more!!! On my 11th Birthday, he fell 66 feet (3 stories), landed on concrete through an unsecured hole at Duke Hospital, as the head contractor of an elevator shaft addition. Our Family didn't know if he was going to live or die for days. He used to devote his spare time to his kids and family. For example, every weekend he would spend time showing me and my sister (Jessica) the right ways to get high on life! Like rock climbing, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, skiing, helping others, quality family time and so much more! After his accident on my 11th Birthday, everything changed. He is nearly paralyzed and has a hard time taking care of himself. At 11 years old I had move to the mountain and take care of him, after my parents separated. I was devastated. I didn't have my hero to teach me to be a man through the hardest years of growing up. Life seemed impossible, even hopeless. Then it got worse, my mother developed severe permanent medical problems. Also, I had two severe motor accidents, with permanent injuries and lost my best friend. I made a lot of mistakes during these years. It crushed me to see both parents in their condition and not be able to do anything about it. We now struggle financially, as well as all the other problems. It has been a struggle the past 17 years and seems harder everyday. I don't have much money, didn't finish college(car accident and other problems), medical problems, severe family problems and I tried to escape my problems with drugs and alcohol(got in lots of legal trouble) up until over a year ago. I recently have tried to cling to Hope and Faith that things will get better. My parents moved back in together and I live with them and try my best to take care of them. In the past year I have been trying my hardest to live by the Values I was taught as a boy. It's still almost unbearable, but I fight to make myself the best person possible. I know what I want to do with my life and that is to help people and spread love. I hope for a brighter future for me and mostly my family and those struggling in life.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
