Austin is my best friend and my hero because he came to me when I was all alone. He believed in me when I myself could not. I became friends with him two years ago. I had just been accepted into a new school. I felt alone and depressed because none of my friends came with me. I missed them dearly and was about to quit, but early in February I received a text from a number I did not recognize, so I texted back this mysterious person. It later turned out to be Austin. He made me realize that maybe I do have people who care for me at that school. I became his shadow and he became my leader. He shows that he cares about me by being the big brother I always wanted. He is there to listen to me when I need someone to talk to. He keeps all his promises and is just a good role model for me to look up to. He has a big heart that never holds a grudge. He is not judgmental or disrespectful to others; instead he shows equality and respect to everyone. He is my hero because he showed he cared about me when I thought no one did. He does things for me and even walks up the long hills in the cold rain with me just so I can get my coat. He is a friend that allows me to be myself and someone who shows kindness, forgiveness, honesty, trustworthiness, patience, etc. No matter what our differences are he accepts me for me. That is what makes him my hero, best friend, and wise older brother!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
