I am a gay man who recently moved to a new city in a new state. Friends are always tough to find when you're new in the area. I met Jim soon after arriving. He is a straight man who has similar interests and we have started working on some part-time projects together. It is ironic that Jim has turned out to be my best friend now. He is a tough blue-collar kind of guy who deals with construction workers, bikers and truckers all day, yet he is not "in the closet" that his best friend is a gay man, he has never failed to help me out with words of encouragement, a helping hand when I needed it, or to help me move when I moved into a better apartment. This may not sound like much, but I feel very fortunate that this is not just a friend, but truly great friend. I can't tell you how grateful I am that this amazing man is my buddy, my colleague, someone I can talk to when things are bothering either of us, and I am blessed to call him among my best friends ever. I appreciate him every day.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
