Arnold is my grandfather who I always called Papa.
He served in Vietnam, was abused as a child, and lost a son, but he still really cared about people.
When my mother was pregnant and needed a place to stay he not only took her in with open arms, he protected me from my fathers abuse in later years.
He helped get my father away from me, fighting for years with the court system and made sure I knew that someday everything would be all right. When I was diagnosed with a learning disability, he made extra time to help me in school. He worked hard as a school custodian as well and did everything he could to take care of his family. When I was 13 he passed away, but my Papa will always be my hero.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
