I’ve been through a lot in the past year and thinking back on how I got through it all brings up a specific name, Christopher Chang. He was the best friend I wouldn’t want to live without, and the hero who saved me. I turned to him when I needed help and I would find him waiting for me to ask. Though our journey became difficult he never told me “This is it. I give up. I can’t do it anymore,” but instead always told me “It’s okay. I’m right here. We’ll make it through together.” He always made me want to do better, to be better, and to live for more than what I saw in front of me. Even after knowing my past and knowing what I’ve been through and what I was going through he still stuck around to be that one shoulder that I could cry on, that one ear I can turn to and spill my heart out to, and that one person to pick me up when I fell. Although I tried to push him away and said the worst things to him that a human being can ever say, he never once gave up on me and pushed me toward success. I would question him “Why are you doing all this? I’m nothing but a big pile of mess and I’m no good for you. There’s so much out there that’s waiting for you, why are you still here?” He would simply reply, “I see so much more in you. I don’t care what you’ve been through; I don’t care what we’re going to go through cause in the end everyone deserves to be happy.” With tears in my eyes I told him I was sorry. He smiled and replied, “It’s okay, I still love you.” Even though we’re not as close anymore I know he still wants the best for me and will always accept and love me the way I am. Each day I wake up and remember to live for more than what’s in front of me because at the end of the day I deserve to be happy and everything is going to be okay.
