My hero is my son. He is 8 years old and has a lot of special needs, but this summer he transcended all of those, if only for a while, to help save the life of a man who had almost bled to death after an ATV accident.
The man almost completely severed his left arm at the shoulder/armpit, tore 3 inches of his brachial artery, and 4 inches of his radial artery and had bled out about 4 pints. My son not only helped with the production and application of a makeshift tourniquet, but, for the first time in his life, he was able to remain, unsupervised and unrequested, out of the way and in one place for over a half an hour, the first and only time in his life. He just knew, in spite of all of his challenges, that that was the best way that he could help, and he just did it. I believe he showed great compassion, courage, responsibility, right choices, character, team work, and kindness in rising above his challenges to help save that man's life!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
