One of my Heroes by Lisa Fricke, Nebraska
This person is one of my heroes for numerous reasons. The ability to teach by exemplary example is one of his stellar qualities. He has taught thousands of young adults the value of a solid reputation, “Wealth can always be recreated, but reputation takes a lifetime to build and often only a moment to destroy.” My role model has also taught young people to build positive relationships”...Take the high road. It’s far less crowded.” While encouraging others to step outside their comfort zone to succeed, he explains, “Most people don’t succeed because they are afraid to fail… no one has succeeded without going through their own failures at some point.” He recommends that everyone “go to bed a little wiser than when you woke up…Life is about learning. If you’re always learning, you can never lose.” These are the words of a gentleman I admire for his strong support of public education, character, values, intelligence, philanthropy, and his compassion for the American dream being paved by hard working individuals who pay their share, play fair, and reap the benefits of a solid education. He may be a rich man, but I find his wealth is in his wisdom that is reflected in his words and actions every single day of his life! My hero is Warren Buffet…
Mr. Buffet values education and has made significant contributions that will have a definite impact on students now, and on their preparedness for the future. In turn, by helping thousands of students, he is also essentially building our economy with his generosity. In June of 2006, this philanthropist donated eighty-five percent of his entire fortune to promote 21st Century Learning. This humble gentleman who “insists on carrying his own luggage even when flying by private jet” has caused a ripple of consciousness that others should emulate. He teaches students to speak up when they perceive injustice is happening: Just this year his voice rang strong, speaking out against the wealthy who do not pay their fair share of taxes: This became known by some as the “Buffet Rule” because he wants everyone to do what is right.
Warren Buffet believes in kids, education, the American dream, and paying back society for the educational opportunities he has been given. Please recognize this gentleman for who he is, not what he owns. Let us learn from this man who positively influences so many.
