My hero is my grandma, Molly Salmonson, for many reasons. She was an incredibly hard-working and strong person. She grew up in Norway and was the oldest in her family, so she helped her parents out with the other kids. She was there when the Nazis occupied Norway and even helped someone hide who the Nazis were looking for. My grandma moved to Brooklyn, NY when she was eighteen all by herself, and got a job working as a housekeeper. When her younger sister Ruth came to America, she looked after her. My grandma got married later in life and my dad was her only child. When my dad was ten my grandpa died, so she had to raise him all by herself. When we kids were born, my grandma helped my mom tremendously, and she was a huge part of my life when I was a child. I have never met a more caring, self-sacrificing, and hard-working person in my life, and I love her and miss her with all my heart.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
