Michael P. Murphy was a Navy Seal. On June 28th, 2005 he led a small reconnaissance unit of Seals in Afghanistan, when they were discovered and attacked by an overwhelming force of Taliban fighters. As members of the unit were wounded fighting, Murphy ran out of the way of cover into the kill zone to get reception for a SAT phone to radio rescue for his team which was pinned down. Murphy was hit 2 times calling for support. He said "thank you" before hanging up. Though wounded severely he picked up his weapon and continued fighting until he died.
A survivor of that attack, and fellow Seal, would describe Murphy to be the best officer he'd ever met, and being an "Iron-Souled Warrior, of colossal and unbelievable courage in the face of the enemy."
