Danielle Johnson is a special ed teacher at Tigard Tualatin School district, specifically Tigard High School, but she is so much more. I believe she should be recognized for all she does above and beyond ANY job description. I will give you only a couple of examples (although there are so many I could share) since you've asked that I use only 500 words. Because most Special Ed kids don't usually participate in the dances and karaoke nights that the "typical" kids frequent, Danielle was determined to give our kids dances throughout the year where the kids felt the 'safe' environment and were not too intimidated to dance! She encouraged many to sing along with karaoke and ALL the kids had a great time, but more importantly they all felt like they were a part of something very special. 2 years ago, because she felt sad that these "special" graduates didn't go to Prom, she organized a night, never to be forgotten for two very special graduates; complete with a limo ride, dates (from the class), inner downtown, and finally the Tigard High School Prom at the Eastbank downtown. The kids still talk about that magical night, and none of these events would have taken place, but for the fact that Danielle Johnson had a vision. There are teachers, that simply "teach", then there is Danielle, who does so much more, before, during and often after her scheduled shift. Her interactions, positive attitude, creative ideas, hopeful spirit, and comforting compassion is why I believe she is most definitely a hero to so many, and deserves to be recognized as such. I hope you'll agree.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
