Karen is passionate and hopeful. She has big dreams and even bigger goals.
She is an organic farmer who started from nothing but a desire and an ethic of hard work and now, five years later she farms 70 acres certified organic. She is someone who sees that in everything we do we have a choice to make and that we can make a difference with each one of those choices.
She sets an example by explaining to me, and anyone interested, why she makes a decision rather than just telling me that I should choose one way or another. She provides a deeper understanding of our impact on each other as human beings, on our planet as farmers and on our lifestyle as consumers. She is a dreamer who knows how to make those dreams a reality by not being afraid to share them and involve others in her dream.
She dreams of a world where a farmer who cares for the land and the creatures on it is able to make a living wage and pay a living wage to all of its employees.
She dreams of a world where organic doesn’t need to qualify a farm because all farms are organic.
She dreams of a world where everyone has access to and can afford fresh, local produce.
She dreams of a world where good food brings communities together and brings families together again.
She dreams of a day when organic farmers are celebrated and given celebrity status.
She dreams of a day when every consumer knows their farmer and has a direct relationship with the land, even if they live in a city.
And here is the key, Karen sees the path that will take us there and she is already taking the steps forward to turn dreams into reality.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
