Dr. Donna Peters is my hero for many reasons. She served the children of North Carolina in education for 30 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and a superintendent. She now serves as the Executive Director of the Sandhills Leadership Academy. This academy trains teachers to be principals for high needs turnaround schools. As I listen to her talk to our interns it is obvious after all these years that her vision remains in the forefront of all of her work. Since knowing Donna, I have met many people whose lives she has touched over these years. She embodies what I believe your organization is all about - compassion, leadership, empathy, communicator, and most of all passionate about her family and work. Since retiring Donna has become the caregiver for her 2 granddaughters - Chloe and Sarah - ages 7 and 9. Even during difficult times the past 3 years, she stays focused on her work while juggling home life. She continues to take time to recognize others for their hard work and constantly worries about everyone but herself. Her selfless acts of kindness should be recognized by your organization. She will always be my hero!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
