Lori Rich, of Riverside, CA, founded Taking it to the Streets with Lori and Rich three years ago after recognizing the need to offer kindness and compassion to the dogs living on the streets with the homeless population. She and her daughter Shira were able to see the problem of a homeless person not being able to adequately take care of themself, yet having a dog that needs food and supplies to be well and healthy. Lori began to pack her own vehicle with pet food, collars, leashes, toys, etc. to have ready when a homeless person with a pet was spotted on the streets.
Nearly everyday in the past three years Lori has spent up to four or five hours driving around town to bring necessities to the street pets as well as waters and snacks for their companions. Two years ago, her organization became a 501 (C) (3) charity. Funds donated and collected are used to see that these street pets get taken in for spay/neuter surgery. To date, nearly 200 hundred dogs and cats have been driven by Lori to the local clinic for this life saving procedure.
Lori is self-driven to see that the pets she has befriended receive food as long as her donation of pet food holds up. Lori maintains a Facebook page posting daily the pets she visits and posting the needs of the street pets whether it be food, supplies, toys or the need for funds to take a new pet in for spay/neuter surgery.
There is no one in our area who has taken on this mission to help out the pets who have no choice as to where they live or how they live. Lori Rich is a true hero to those of us who have become her volunteers to help with organizational needs. I proudly nominate Lori as an Everyday Hero!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
