Rowan is an eight year student in my second grade class in Los Angeles Unified School District. She has Cystic Fibrosis, coughs a lot, and is absent or tardy on many days. She inspires me as a teacher to do my best and cram as much learning as I can into each day. She has a hard time pronouncing her disease, Cystic Fibrosis, so she calls it "65 roses."
She and her family participate in an annual fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. This year we all decided that our class should do something to contribute. We made hundreds of paper origami roses. Kids took paper home and made more; parents came in and helped at school. We hoped to raise $100 in the week preceding Mothers' Day. By Thursday we had raised $667! The students were thrilled that they had done something to help Rowan. Rowan simply beams when she talks about the project.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
