I volunteer at a local Reparatory Theater as an usher. Tonight was just like any other night. A bunch of us were standing by the door waiting to escort people to their seats.
It's common to greet one another with a "how are you" and half the time it seems we don't even listen to the answer- always hoping that they'll say "I'm fine" so we can move on with our lives. If people ever respond to our question by answering with "not very good," "lousy" or "bad", it throws us off and we generally don't know what to do with ourselves.
One of the ushers standing in front of me, took the tickets from a lovely couple, and asked the generic question, "How are you today?" Without skipping a beat, the man answered, "Living the dream." He said it just like he would have siad anything else- but you could tell he REALLY meant it!! A bunch of us looked at each other, and really pondered what this man had said. The manager of the theater paused, and whispered to him self, "Wow, living the dream", and one of the other ushers and I began to talk about how those are the kind of people that you want to run into sometime in your life- and it is so true!! In my opinion, the world would be so much better, if only all of us were always "living the dream" and let people know it!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
