It was a cold Boy Scout Klondike weekend. The night before had been twenty degrees below zero and a lot of the troops didn't come out. Needless to say the ones that did come were moving around a lot to keep warm.
There was a series of games and competitions to participate in including things like First Aid, shelter building and snowshoe racing. There was also a quarter mile dogsled race. My Troop wasn't the best at these, and the cold didn't help. They kept at it though, and kept a good amount of encouraging chatter going the whole time. They really tried their best.
Well, at the closing ceremony, they weren't expecting to hear their Troop number called. They had won the Scout Spirit award, for trying their best and generally being good sports about things. I explained to them that while the other categories had a first, second, and third place there was only one Scout Spirit award, and they had it. This made them feel pretty good.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
