If there ever was an Award for "Great Examples of Kindness, Helping Others and Positive Values," our old friend, Felix Cartagena would be up way up there.
Long story short, for about 3O years that I've known Felix he's been doing Bubble, Kite, Bikes and Bear Shows. He's gone thru many 5O gallon barrel's of soap bubble liquid on his signature FREE Bubble Shows, entertaining many thousands of families across the US. He's done this entirely on "His Dime"! He lives to entertain people with his smile and sense of humor and untiring caring for all that come his way.
Anyone you talk to who has come into Felix's orbit will tell you stories reflecting his kindness', caring, bubbles, kite flying and other almost hidden talents. In short, he's a REAL "class act."
My favorite short story about Felix's caring kindness is about my old friend, Don from Colorado. Don was walking between two buildings at work when he was run over by a drunk driver who broke his back in the process. He wouldn't ever walk again. After I mentioned this to Felix, a few days later he brought us a box as a present for Don. In it was his favorite Teddy Bear, "Winston." Don was getting Winston, copies of his awards, newspaper/magazine articles, Winston's dress-up suits, custom car-seat that he'd been famous for and even his parachute as Winston had sky-dove from a kite! Many, many Kids had seen Winston jump his chute from one of Felix's Kites. They always shouted "Bear in the Air" every-time he "jumped!"
Long story short, Felix walked into my home kite shop to pay a surprise visit to see me and another kite friend, Adrian from Canada. We soon found the reason behind his incredible caring gift to come. Many people thought Winston was Felix's son, so to speak. He was that close it seemed. We soon found the reason behind Felix's gift to come. Felix told Adrian and I, "Winston's got a job to do", and sent Winston on his way to Colorado to take up residence with Don. We all knew what a gift this was from a kind and most generous friend. We all were sobbing like children and we were over 4O'something at the time! As I write this, I still get a wet face some 3O plus years ago from this event. Don was last seen driving his wheelchair equipped Oldsmobile Toronado with Winston in the car-seat! Had you been there at these moments you would've been soggy faced too.
This was our ultimate "Felix moment." My wife and I have been given to referring to him as "St. Felix" a time or three.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
