One hot day during the summer I was training with a couple of my teammates on my college's cross country team. We were doing a hill workout along a stretch of road that dipped into a valley. We would run down the road into the valley, up to the top of the hill and then turn around and run back to the top of the hill on the side we started on and then turn around and do it again. While we were doing this, a man was grilling outside at the turning point at the top of the hill we started at.
We finished our workout back where we started and stood around catching our breath before we started our run back to campus. The man grilling went inside and came out with a pitcher of water and some glasses. He asked us if we wanted some water, which we appreciatively accepted, and he poured us some.
It was a simple gesture but it really touched me a lot. It has helped motivate me to offer simple gestures of kindness when I can. The guy who offered the water may have forgotten all about that simple act, but it is something that has stayed with me since that day.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
