My great-grandfather was always the lighthouse of the family. He helped us when we were lost, and provided support like no one else I know. When he passed away a few years ago, it made such a huge impact, not only on us, but the whole community.
One day, my uncle told me a story that my great-grandfather, Daddy Harry, had told him. Daddy Harry was a radioman in World War II. One day, he and someone in a ranking above him were on a boat together. Daddy Harry noticed that the other man had a gun, but he didn't think they were in any danger.
"Why do you have a gun?" Daddy Harry asked.
"If we get ambushed, I'm going to shoot myself, and then you are going to do the same." He replied.
Daddy Harry nodded his head, understanding that he had valuable information that could cost us the war.
After hearing that story, I realized that a true hero is someone who is willing to lose everything, to DIE, for someone else. I now strive, every day, to be just like him.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
