My Wife and I recently travelled from Lasalle, Ontario, Canada to Harsen's Island, Michigan. We were travelling East on I-94 in the construction zone approaching 8 Mile Rd. The traffic was down to a crawl, when a blue Dodge pick up truck approached along side and an older gentleman driving asked us if we'd like to avoid the traffic and follow him to save time. I'm sure he had noticed our Ontario license plate. We pulled in behind him and followed him as we exited the highway.
As we stopped at a traffic light, he got out of his truck, came back to our vehicle and assured us that if we got separated, he would wait for us so that we would not get lost. We followed him for several miles as he kept a close watch in his mirror, making sure we were still following.
As we approached the ramp that would take us back to the highway avoiding the entire stretch of slow traffic and construction, this gentleman directed us to the highway and continued on his way.
We never got the chance to thank this very kind gentleman, but I did extend my appreciation when he made the offer to assist.
I hope this very kind gentleman reads this letter. It's wonderful to know that we have such great Friends and Neighbours just across the border. Have a Wonderful Day, Detroit!

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
