It's hard sometimes to see the light in an ever-darkening world. Trials in life can push us to the edge and make us want to throw in the towel. I have a friend; I met 'J' working at a regular retail store in New England. Over the past year and a half, I have watched this young man journey into a phenomenally successful adulthood. After going through abuse as a child, toiling with drugs and alcohol as a youth, and facing death more than once, he finally found his footing by the kindness of others and his own strength. He perseveres.
After being diagnosed with learning disabilities, he found his brilliance in engineering. As soon as he had enough money, he moved out of his house. After many job rejections, he now is on the fast track at a fantastic company. After having school administration tell him that he would never amount to anything, he is getting his bachelor's and master's degrees. He plans to live on 10% of what he makes and donate 90% to others. He works 7 days a week, holding down two jobs, yet still is always available to others when they need him. His passion is on energy. He hopes to bring energy advances to third world countries and spread, literally, his light. No matter what he does in life I know that it will be great and I am honored to be his friend.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
