Support each other through tough times.
I listened to the State of the Union address and admire and support President Obama. It’s been fascinating to watch the response to his every sentence. The future success of our country relies on a common brotherhood to push the right buttons, or else a darkened tomorrow will sadden us all.
I did not vote for Sen. Mark Kirk in the last election, but I respect him. As his seat sat vacant during the speech, I was particularly disturbed that a fellow Illinoisan made no mention for his speedy recovery. As someone who is recovering from robotic prostate cancer surgery, I can’t tell you how the overwhelming support from people too numerous to mention has filled the gap in my family in our time of need (I can’t be the caregiver I normally am to my wife, who has severe MS). Our nation is at a time of similar need. We’ll make it through; adding touches of compassion, courtesy and common sense will make it a quicker ascension.

We've all had people in our lives who have made a positive impact on us. A parent or grandparent, a sibling who was there for us, or maybe even just a guy who shines shoes for a living? Whoever they are, tell us their story so they can inspire us even more.
